Why own a gun? Maybe a better question
is... "Why not?". A gun is nothing more or less than a
tool. Like all other tools, it can be used for good
intentions or for destructive purposes. The "good or evil"
use of a gun is simply a conscious choice made by the person that
has possession of it. Responsible gun owners know this, and
know how to treat guns and keep them away from those who are less
responsible or untrained, including young children.
The National Rifle Association
(NRA), through its network of trained
and certified instructors, provides many different types of
firearms training. A good place to start with responsible
firearms training is to take one of the NRA's courses. The
basic firearms safety training course is an integral part of the
training required for obtaining a CCW permit. Whether or not
you intend to obtain a permit, I strongly suggest that you consider
taking such a course. You can find links to training
resources on the CCW
Students page of this
website.
No matter what your good intentions are for
owning a gun, you should know how to handle one properly and how to
take care of it. Once you have this basic knowledge under
your belt, you can start enjoying some of the many enjoyable
benefits of gun ownership......... responsibly and
safely......
